It is one of the prefecture's leading tea producing areas, having won the Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Award, the highest award at the National Tea Fair. The Oigawa River is said to be one of the most difficult spots on the Tokaido, as the poem goes, ``Hakone eight miles can be crossed by horse, but the Oigawa river cannot be crossed.'' The average annual precipitation in the basin is 3,000mm. Hatsukura tea is grown with the benefit of abundant water. It is also widely known as a land suitable for the royal variety of tea, ``Yabukita''.

★Bringing out the flavor 1.Pour 6g of tea leaves into a teapot. 2. Cool 180cc of boiled water to 80 degrees and pour it into the teapot. 3. Wait carefully and pour the tea evenly into the teacup after 45 seconds for the first brew and 15 seconds for the second and subsequent brews. Tip: Warm up the teacup well before making tea.

1. Put 6g of tea leaves into a teapot.
2. Cool 180cc of boiled water to 90 degrees and pour it into the teapot.
3. After 20 seconds for the first brew, pour boiling water after the second brew and pour it into the teacup without waiting.
