  • Ashikubo, the birthplace of Shizuoka tea

It is said that during the Kamakura period, the famous monk Shoichishin Kokokushi, who opened Tofukuji Temple in Higashiyama, Kyoto, cultivated tea seeds in Ashikubo that he brought back from the Sung Dynasty where he practiced asceticism, which is said to be the beginning of tea in Shizuoka. It has been reported. Ashikubo is also home to a haiku stone monument called the Fox Stone, which is said to be the largest in Japan. The haiku engraved on it is ``Surugaji ya He Hana Tachibana Mo Chanonihohi''. This is a poem that Matsuo Basho composed in the 7th year of Genroku while on his way to the west.
  • Honyamacha, the favorite drink of Tokugawa Ieyasu

True Motoyama tea refers to tea produced in six villages located deep in the mountains of the former Abe District: Tamagawa, Okawa, Kiyosawa, Igawa, Umegashima, and Okochi Villages. “Ashikubo” is also branded as Honzan tea. Hagiri's Motoyama tea is made using the traditional method of Shizuoka's mountainous region, ``Gyokuasamushi Sencha.'' This is a unique manufacturing method unique to Hagiri. In order to make the most of the flavor of fresh leaves, the steaming time of the fresh leaves is shortened, and the tea is produced with the shape of the tea leaves intact.
  • You can enjoy the original taste of the local tea because it is "Shallow Mushi Sencha".

Motoyama tea is characterized by its rich flavor, which is a trinity of umami, astringency, and sweetness. Recommended way to drink (hot water) 1. Pour 180ml of boiling water into a hot water cup and let it cool to about 70 degrees. 2.Pour 6-8g (2 tablespoons) of tea leaves and cooled hot water into a teapot. 3. After 60 seconds for the first brew and 10 seconds for the second brew, pour evenly into the teacup until the last drop.
